His grassroots approach turned the small village of Urulikanchan, located about 30 kilometers from Pune, into a beacon of rural transformation. In 1946, during Mahatma Gandhi’s stay in Urulikanchan, the Nisargopchar Ashram was established. Founded on the principles of Gram Swaraj (village self-rule) and Gram Swavlamban (village self reliance), the ashram advocated naturopathy and natural healing for the poor and underserved, making healthcare both accessible and sustainable.
